Juan a winner for Colin Webster

Colin Webster reached the summit in a 50-year training career when Trix Of The Trade claimed the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) earlier this season and those same yellow and brown silks were back in the winning enclosure at Ascot on Wednesday.

His Oratorio 3yo Juan Won One looked a promising type winning at his first over a mile in the Glenroy Chaff Maiden (1650m).  He sat outside the leader in a small field and forged clear in the straight to score by a couple of panels over odds-on favourite West Coast Warrior (So You Think).

Webster’s son Colin jnr stood in at the midweek meeting and predicted Juan Won One will get further despite being a son of Oratorio (Stravinsky).  “The blinkers went on today and that helped him concentrate.  Troy (Turner) had him travelling beautifully and he let down strongly in the final furlong.”

Juan Won One is a homebred for Trix Of The Trade’s owners Bill and Patricia Robinson.  They bought his dam Glamourscene (Scenic) for $11,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Autumn Sale and she has a perfect record at stud with six winners from six foals to the races.

The best of Glamourscene’s stock have been Dad’s Bigheaded (I’m All The Talk) who has won three times up to a mile in town and Glamour Packed (Oratorio) who is an older full-sister to Juan Won One.  She won the Westspeed Platinum Series Final (1400m) at Ascot in November 2020 and is in foal off a maiden cover to Maschino in September.

Glamourscene has an unraced 2yo filly named Ocean Foam (Maschino) with mid-west owner-trainer Murray Wallace.  The Robinsons board their mares at Alwyn Park in Serpentine hence the affiliation with resident stallion Maschino (Encosta de Lago).

Trix Of The Trade (Trade Fair) can give Webster, Turner and the Robinsons another huge result in the $4 million The Quokka (1200m) at Ascot next Saturday.  He will be racing first-up since coming from last on the corner to finished a two-length sixth in the G1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) on December 3.

Bookmakers have Trix Of The Trade at $18 in pre-post markets behind Northerly winner Amelia’s Jewel ($2.40).  The Railway winner was locked in as a starter after a deal was finalized between his connections and the Chief Racing Syndicate.
