Champs Elysees has been named the Canadian Horse of the Year.  The son of Danehill received the award in recognition of his win in the G1 Canadian International in October.

Although trained in the United States by the late Bobby Frankel, Champs Elysees made four starts in Canada during 2009, enough to see him eligible for a Sovereign Award.  In addition to winning the Canadian International, he also ran third in the G1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes.

Champs Elysees is a brother to the G1 winners Dansili, Banks Hill, Intercontinental and Cacique.  He is about to start covering his first book at Juddmonte Farms at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket.

Lane’s End Farm stallion A P Indy sired three Sovereign Award winners in Eye Of The Leopard (3yo Colt), Marchfield (Older Male) and Serenading (Older Female).

Marchfield’s owner Eugene Melnyk also walked away with awards for owner and breeder while his Red Ransom mare Pico Teneriffe, the dam of Marchfield, was named Broodmare of the Year.
