Mark Kavanagh served notice his team will be a force this spring after an encouraging start at Caulfield on August 15.

Kavanagh was more than pleased with the first-up effort of Whobegotyou (Street Cry) who was a close second in the G2 Liston Stakes.  The ebullient trainer also prepared G3 Cockram Stakes winner Cats Whisker (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Remembrance Hcp winner Raffaello (Encosta De Lago).

Whobegotyou is the pre-post favourite for the 2009 W S Cox Plate, a race Kavanagh collected last year with Maldivian.

Kav is hoping Cats Whisker can replace his former Group 1 winning mares Divine Madonna (Hurricane Sky) and Devil Moon (King Cugat).  If courage is any criteria, Cats Whisker can make the grade.  She broke from an outside barrier in the Cockram Stakes and refused to surrender when challenged in the straight.

Divine Madonna was served by Redoute’s Choice in her maiden season at stud last year and Devil Moon is heading to Patinack Farm to be covered by Casino Prince.  She was retired after failing in a recent barrier trial at Warwick Farm.

The Kavanagh trained Shamoline Warrior (Shamardal) was also impressive when he ran on resolutely behind the placegetters in the LR Vain Stakes last Saturday.  He had won a Sale maiden on debut and a mile looks like being his forte.  He holds an entry for the G1 Caulfield Guineas, a race stablemate Whobegotyou won last year.

Kavanagh unveiled another three year-old colt with potential when Definitely Ready scored by seven lengths on debut at Morphettville yesterday.

Definitely Ready (3c More Than Ready – Defiant by Danehill) is from a sister to speed machine Formal Attire who is starting his stud career Touchstone Stud in Western Australian this year.  Their dam Ruffles (Zeditave) was a G1 winner of the VRC Newmarket Hcp.

Vinery sire More Than Ready sired two city doubles on Wednesday at Morphettville (Definitely Ready & Rock ‘N’ Ready) and at Eagle Farm (Calm Before & Citiwyse).
