A Tapit colt topped trade during Day 2 of Keeneland’s September yearling sale on Tuesday. Stonestreet Stables paid $700,000 for the brother to stakes performer Tempted to Tapit.
“He’s a great Tapit,” Stonestreet spokesman John Moynihan said. “The mare has been bred to Tapit twice and she has two stakes horses, so we’ll take our shot. It was a lot of money, but the good horses are certainly bringing it.”
The colt was consigned by Gainesway and is from Tempting Note (Editor’s Note). His older brother Tempted to Tapit was second in the G2 Risen Star Stakes and third in the G3 Sunland Derby.
Maverick Racing paid the session’s second-highest price of $550,000 for a colt by Giant’s Causeway out of the winning Seeking the Gold mare Questress. He’s a half-brother to Vinery based G1 racehorse and sire Pomeroy.
Shadwell Estates paid $500,000 for a Tiznow filly from the family of champion racehorse and sire Theatrical. For the second consecutive day, Shadwell owner Sheikh Hamdan was the leading buyer with 8 yearlings for $2.16 million.
On Tuesday, Keeneland reported it sold 186 horses for $32.24 million. The average rose 6% to $173,333 and the median was up 18% to $150,000.
The September Sale continues through to Friday, September 21.
