Keffelstein became the latest son of Redoute’s Choice to sire a winner when his filly Miss Inform landed the Des Rix Homes Maiden Plate (1100m) at Ballarat on Friday.

Miss Inform (3f Keffelstein – Glory Belle by In Prosequi) is trained by Greg Eurell and overcame a slow start to score by a long neck on debut as the $1.70 favourite.  She started in the red after an impressive hit-out in a Cranbourne barrier trial last month.

Keffelstein was bred by Gundaroo Stud owners Rob Lees and Len Hoyle but was retired without racing.  He didn’t have the same profile as other Redoute’s Choice sires like Group 1 winners Stratum, Snitzel and God’s Own and, as a result, only covered 34 mares in his first season at stud.

He stands at Spring Valley Farm in Victoria and has had just three runners from that crop so far.  His initial starter Bay of Poets, who is also based at Eurell’s Cranbourne stables, was placed at Kilmore on debut in February.

Keffelstein’s dam Gliding Easy (Easy Goer) was sent from the USA to Australia in 1996.  The latest of her five winners out here is Gundaroo Stud gelding Newsnight (Carnegie) and he has his hoof right on the till for trainer John Morrisey.  Second dam Grecian Flight (Cormorant) won 21 races including the G1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont and the G2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico.

Keffelstein stands for an advertised service fee of $5,500 at Eileen Plant’s Avenel based nursery.  He was unable to race due to a hoof injury sustained as a yearling.

Eurell’s Cadet Lodge stables provided another boost for a Avenel based sire last Saturday when Miss Chatter scored an upset win at Flemington.  She is by Murphy’s Blu Boy who has just been transferred to Malcolm Boyd’s Bullarook Park Stud.
