Sunspeed sprinter Kencella has been nominated to start his spring campaign in the LR Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield this Saturday.
The Chris Waller trained speed-machine has been off the scene since an unplaced effort in the G1 The Galaxy at Rosehill in March. He looked right up to the mark winning an 800m trial under a strong hold at Flemington last Friday.
Kencella clocked 48.49 seconds on a slow track which was the fastest time of the morning.
When last in work with John O’Shea, he completed autumn hat-trick culminating with a Group 3 victory in the Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.
Kencella (5g Exceed And Excel – Kentiara by Metal Storm) comes from a family that has served up numerous stakes winners for owner-breeders Lex & Shirley Piper and Mungrup Stud owners Gray & Jan Williamson.
His dam Kentiara was a Listed winner of the York Stakes and Detonator Stakes at Ascot. Her sister Kalatiara claimed the G2 WA Guineas and G3 Royal Heroine Stakes at Hollywood Park.
Other feature winners in the family include Guest Wing (G2 Perth Cup), Antique Belle (LR Burgess Queen Stakes) and Broadway Belle (LR Jungle Dawn Classic).
