King’s Theatre succumbs to colic

Former Queensland shuttler King’s Theatre has died from complications due to colic at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland.

The 20 year-old son of Sadler’s Wells was based at Glenlogan Park for five southern seasons until 2001.  The best of his Australian bred progeny was the David Hall trained gelding Royal Code.  He was a multiple G2 winner at Moonee Valley in the Alister Clark Stakes, Norman Carlyon Stakes and Waterford Crystal Mile.

King’s Theatre won the 1994 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot but made his name as a leading National Hunt sire.  His record at the Cheltenham Festival was particularly good with high-class jumpers like Captain Chris and Menorah.
