God’s Own sired his second winner when Captain Oates scored a comfortable victory in the Macaulay Ford 2YO Hcp (1100m) at Riverton on Saturday. The NZ based colt is trained by Sally and Ben Gordon at Ascot Park for the Wellesley Land Co Ltd.
Captain Oates (2c God’s Own – Silently Yours by Clay Hero) won in heavy conditions similar to the day his sire won a memorable edition of the G1 Caulfield Guineas.
God’s Own opened his account when Heavens Own was successful at the Sunshine Coast in February. The Eliza Park / Yallambee Stud stallion is by Redoute’s Choice and his second crop yearlings were popular at the Inglis Melbourne Premier last month.
The God’s Own – Our Sistine colt from Makybe topped his Oaklands Junction draft when selling to Byron Cozamanis for $90,000. He is from a half-sister to NZ Horse of the Year King’s Chapel.
Captain Oates sold for $35,000 out of the Haunui Farm consignment at the NZ Bloodstock 2YO HIT Sale last November. His dam Silently Yours scored at Moonee Valley before shipping off-shore to win another 6 races in Singapore and Malaysia.
Repatriated to Australia two years later, Silently Yours has since criss-crossed the Tasman five times for owner Chris Trompert. She is a half-sister to the Zabeel Group 1 winners St Reims (NZ Derby & Zabeel Classic) and Champagne (VRC Mackinnon St & STC Ansett Australia St).
God’s Own stood for a $33,000 (inc gst) fee at Eliza Park in 2009. He is based at the Kerrie property by arrangement with Yallambee Stud.
