Kiwi Gift in Macau

Kiwi bred gelding St Peter’s Gift maintained his consistent form since arriving in Macau with a G2 victory in the Director’s Cup (1500m) at Taipa on Saturday.

St Peter’s Gift (4g St. Petersburg – Royal Pass by Kingdom Bay) is owned by Dato K S Yap and was a comprehensive four length winner from Jazza Bell (Zabeel) and Supreme Caga (Cherokee Run).

St Peter’s Gift (NZ) was a G3 winner of the Macau Derby Trial over the same distance in March but he was a tragedy beaten last time out in the G1 Macau Gold Cup (1800m).  The Joe Lau trained gelding was run down by Golden Gunner (Black Minnaloushe) in the shadows of the post after experiencing a tough run on the speed.

Bred by Everhardus and Maria Strauss, St Peter’s Gift was purchased for $90,000 from the 2008 NZ Bloodstock HIT Sale.  “He looked a nice style of a horse, we just liked him.” Lau said.  “I left him in New Zealand to mature a bit and he won two trials before coming to Macau.”

His sire St Petersburg (Nureyev) was a Listed winner at Flemington and retired to NZ in 2002.  Based first at Grande Vue Lodge and then Brighthill Farm, he was exported to South Africa in 2008.

St Peter’s Gift is from the stakes performed Royal Pass and descends from the same family as Champion NZ Filly Prepak.
