NZ bred mares Our Famous Eve and Miss Pelear are right on target for their spring assignments after winning hit-outs at the recent Te Teko trials.
Miss Pelear (Mr Nacho) claimed the G2 Rich Hill Mile at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day and trainers Brendan and Keith Hawtin were delighted with the first serious gallop in her new campaign.
“She has really come back better than ever and we knew she was forward enough,” said Brendan Hawtin. “The trial plus the trip away will bring her on nicely for a first-up run in the Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa this weekend.
“All going well, she will then head to Hastings for the Makfi Stakes and Windsor Park Plate. If she’s ready for 2000 metres, then the Spring Classic will be next on the agenda.”
Trainer Glenn Old was also happy with Our Famous Eve’s comfortable heat win. “She had six weeks off after the Easter Handicap and really strengthened up nicely. We have taken her along slowly but will start getting serious now.”
Our Famous Eve (Fast ‘N’ Famous) will trial again at Te Teko on August 27 prior to a first-up run in the Windsor Park Plate at Hastings on September 21.
The Matamata based mare was a G2 winner of the Japan Trophy at Tauranga in March, however, Old is a little concerned the mare’s rating may see her struggle to get a start at Hastings.
“She is a fair way down the order of entry at this stage so she will need a few to drop away to secure a start,” he said. “If she doesn’t manage to get in the race there is a $50,000 Listed mile at Counties on the same day so that is our Plan B.”
