Snitzel colt Klammer made the trip to Canberra a very worthwhile one in the Lightning Ridge 2YO Plate (1000m) on Sunday.
The Rosehill visitor showed plenty of determination to defeat local gallopers Chief Of The Clan and Quietly Brilliant. His connections collected $13,000 prizemoney and an additional $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus plus a ballot exemption from the LR Black Opal Stakes.
Klammer (2c Snitzel – Morrego by More Than Ready) held just a head margin on the line, but it was a valuable one for the improving two-year-old heading towards the Black Opal back at Canberra in a fortnight.
Bred by Damien Flower, Klammer topped the 2013 Inglis Sydney Classic Winter Sale when selling to trainer Gerald Ryan for $100,000 from the draft of Amarina Farm.
Klammer is the 24th winner for his sire Snitzel to be trained by Gerald Ryan. Others include Group 1 winning Inglis graduate Snitzerland and Group 2 winning Inglis graduates Flying Snitzel and Hot Snitzel.
Snitzel is represented with 18 yearlings in the upcoming 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and there are also 17 lots by Snitzel in the catalogue for this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
