Next month’s Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale received a stakes winning boost after Zedi Knight won the Listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington on Wednesday.
Zedi Knight (6g Zeditave – Sly Sandra by Sealed Bid) controlled the race and cruised home in the straight to beat the favourite Launay (Lonhro) and Secret Flyer (Secret Savings). It broke a 13 run losing sequence since a Sandown victory in January 2010.
The Brendan McCarthy trained sprinter was a $35,000 buy from Chatswood Stud at the 2006 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. Wednesday’s win was his first in black-type company and increased his earnings to $307,000 from 7 wins in 24 starts.
“He’s been running terrific races but hasn’t had any luck with the barriers,” McCarthy reported. “There are a lot of nice races coming up so hopefully he can go on with it.”
Zedi Knight is the 36th stakes winner for former Newhaven Park sire Zeditave who died last July aged 25. His sire sons at stud include Strategic (Darley), Magic Albert (Yarraman Park) and Zedrich (Evergreen Lodge).
The Harbeeba winner is one of three winners for Listed VRC Matriarch Stakes winner Sly Sandra. Chatswood will sell her filly by resident sire Primus at next month’s Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale.
Catalogued as Lot 105, the filly is a most attractive individual according the Magic Millions spokesman Tim Brown. “She has good size and scope and looks a likely type,” Brown reported. “Her sire Primus can produce a lovely type and this filly is a good example of his stock.
Chatswood’s draft for the Adelaide Magic Millions also includes a Rakti half sister to G1 winner Above Deck who will kick-start the sale as Lot 1 on March 15.
