Krupt was represented by his first winner when Veselka led home quinella for her sire and trainer at Kembla Grange on Saturday.
Veselka (2f Krupt – Riverview by Ignatius) defeated Krupt colt Emceeing by a length in the Camp Quality Maiden Plate (1000m). Both youngsters are prepared by Matthew Smith at Warwick Farm.
Smith also prepared Krupt to a Group 2 victory in the 2008 Todman Stakes over Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan but he was injured in the lead-up to that year’s Golden Slipper Stakes.
The Todman proved to be his career finale as a series of injuries over an extended period prevented him from facing the starter again. “I have worked with some extremely smart ones,” Smith claimed. “But he was as good a horse I have been around.”
Krupt stood his first season at Lincoln Farm in the Hunter Valley before transferring to Kooringal Stud. A son of Flying Spur, he stood for a $5,500 (inc gst) fee in Wagga last year.
