Cheveley Park sire Kyllachy headlined York’s Ebor meeting last week and he was back in the news on Day 1 of the Doncaster Premier yearling sale on Tuesday.

Kyllachy gelding Sole Power caused a 100-1 upset when defeating Starspangledbanner in the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes last Friday.

Kyllachy surfaced again during Day 1 of the Doncaster Sale when his filly from Balladonia (Primo Dominie) topped proceedings at 120,000 pounds (AUD 209,095) to the bid of Eddie Stobart CEO Andrew Tinkler.  The filly’s older half-brother Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj) won the DBS Premier Yearling Stakes at York last Thursday and is being touted as a leading candidate for the G1 Middle Park Stakes.

Kyllachy won the 2002 Nunthorpe and has made a great start at stud with 10 stakes winners to date standing alongside his own sire Pivotal at Cheveley Park.  

Figures for Day 1 of the Doncaster Premier yearling sale were on a par with last year.  The average of 27,457 pounds (AUD 47,845) was achieved on the back of an 82% clearance rate.

A Le Vie Dei Colori colt also made 120,000 pounds (AUD 209,095).  He is out of a half sister to G3 winner Eastern Purple.  He was purchased by Sir Robert Ogden who was just as active yesterday as he was at the Arqana Sale in Deauville last week.

The colt was pin-hooked as a foal by Rathbarry Stud where Le Vie Dei Colori (Efisio) stood prior to his premature death.  He is one of a handful of youngsters from the stallion’s final crop.  “He’s a very racy individual,” Ogden’s racing manager Barry Simpson said.  “He’s a strong, good-bodied with a good attitude and he looks a two-year-old.”

DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby was delighted with the first day’s trade.  “The performances of previous graduates have ensured that buyers have been bidding with confidence,” he said.  “In the current climate, how could we not be pleased?”
