Testa Rossa filly Lady Paget ramped up her residual value with a surprise victory in the Prosperity Audit Services Maiden (1400m) at Newcastle on Saturday.
Lady Paget (3f Testa Rossa – Lady Capel by Last Tycoon) is trained by Anthony Cummings for owner-breeder Gerry Harvey. She received the run of the race under apprentice Jackson Matthews to defeat quick closer Love Excels (Exceed And Excel) by over a length. The runner-up is also a Harvey homebred.
Lady Paget is a half-sister the stakes winners Lord Of The Land (Timber Country), Casino Prince (Flying Spur), Tagus (Encosta de Lago) and Metallurgical (Redoute’s Choice).
She is an older half-sister to Patinack filly Reflectance (Redoute’s Choice) who beat her to the winning post four days earlier at Kembla Grange on May 1.
Testa Rossa became the seventh stallion to sire 100 individual winners in Australia this season when Murcielaga (Warrnambool) and Rambling On (Wagga) doubled up on Thursday.
The Vinery sire follows Commands, Redoute’s Choice, Fastnet Rock, Lonhro, Bel Esprit and Encosta de Lago who had already passed the century mark this season
Lady Paget made in 101 winners in 2011-12. His overall record now reads 431 winners of 1294 races at a 71% strike-rate.
Testa Rossa will stand for a $33,000 (inc gst) service fee at Vinery in 2012.
