An eye-catching War Chant yearling with Easter looks has topped the leader-board for Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) members at the Perth Magic Millions.
Astute Bloodstock agent Louis Le Metayer paid $120,000 to Yarradale Stud for the War Chant – Rokeby’s Witch filly related to Group 1 winner Delicacy. “She’s a lovely filly and, on type, would not be out of place at the Sydney Easter Sale,” he said. “She’s strong with plenty of bone and has a beautiful temperament.
“There’s a champion filly under her second dam,” Le Metayer added while sitting next to a Group 1 winning trainer from Caulfield. “And I think she’s value at the price.”
John Chalmers Bloodstock was active during Book 1 (Monday) and Book 2 (Tuesday) with a total spend of $378,000. His top buys were a pair of $50,000 fillies by Trade Fair and Snippetson.
Chalmers was on hand for the first parades at Belmont last week and his first buy was the Trade Fair from a half-sister to Rose Of Choice (Lot 5). The Snippetson filly (Lot 53) is out of a sister to General Peekay.
Commercial Bloodstock agent Noel Carter outlaid $325,000 topped by a Playing God filly from G3 WA Oaks winner Moodometer that made $62,000.
Mungrup Stud freshman Playing God is giving every indication he’s upgrading his mares and Moodometer has a perfect record at stud with 4 winners from 4 starters.
Carter also bought a Gingerbread Man – Brocky’s Ace colt from Western Breeders’ Alliance for $50,000. He’s a half-brother to Quilista who won a stakes race at Bunbury before transferring to Melbourne.
Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy also hovered around the $50,000 mark with fillies by first-season sires Sessions and Safeguard from Mogumber Park.
Sessions (Lonhro) won a G2 The Shorts in Sydney and his Perth filly (Lot 118) is closely related to Lonhro star Exosphere (G1 Golden Rose).
Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) was a Group 3 winner at Randwick and Caulfield and, like Sessions, he is a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed. His Perth filly (Lot 88) is from Ascot stakes performer Jeverre.
Boomer Bloodstock’s Craig Rounsefell and Lindsey Smith snapped up fillies by Magnus and War Chant for a sum total of $70,000 from Misty Valley Thoroughbreds owner Tony Patrizi.
Smith trains consistent mare Paris Texas for Patrizi and Chris Wells who part-owns Boomer buy Scales Of Justice. The G1 Railway Stakes winner will be set for winter features at Belmont Park instead of travelling interstate this season.
