Life’s a Beach for Condamine

Condamine became the latest son of Redoute’s Choice to sire a winner when Bucasia Beach broke his maiden at Mackay on Tuesday.

Bucasia Beach (3g Condamine – I’m Fabulous by Fuji Kiseki) had been placed in three of his four starts prior to scoring a long-head victory in the L J Hooker Maiden Hcp (1100m).  He is trained by Olivia Cairns and banked $13,500 in prizemoney and QTIS bonuses for owner-breeder and local vet Dr David Lemmon.

Condamine stands at Glenisla Stud which is operated by Terry Wood near the Queensland coast adjacent to the Whitsundays.  “He’s a beautiful stallion and that win will hopefully mean a few more mares this season,” Wood said.  “Bucasia Beach is from his first crop and is a real trier.”

Condamine was a $500,000 buy from Arrowfield Stud’s draft at the 2005 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  He was purchased by Ron Croghan but was unplaced in a half-dozen starts under the care of Paul Perry.

“After he came up here, David found a large chip in one of his knees,” Wood explained.  “They operated and got him going but then he injured an eye pretty badly.

“Ron sent Condamine to me in 2008 and, after he passed away, one his brothers rang up and said the family is happy enough for us to keep the horse.”

Wood also stands True Hero (The Minstrel) who was a G3 winner of the 1993 Sandown Classic Trial.  He was initially based at Emirates Park in NSW and had other ports of call in Queensland before arriving at Glenisla Stud.

“True Hero would have to be one of the last sons of The Minstrel at stud,” Wood said.  “He’s 23 but acts like he’s still an 8 year-old.”

Condamine and True Hero both stand for $2,200 (inc gst) service fees at Glenisla Stud.  Broodmare owners call Wood for further information on (07) 4947 5260.
