Lone Rock is on track for a second win at the highest level after a breathtaking victory in the G3 Bobbie Lewis Hcp (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Lone Rock (4m Fastnet Rock – Pride of Pine by Lion Cavern) clocked a stunning final 600m sectional of 32.16s to reel in boom sprinter Bel Sprinter down the straight course at headquarters.
The Robert Smerdon trained mare claimed the G1 Goodwood at Morphettville in May and her immediate goal this campaign will be the G1 Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield next month.
Lone Rock has turned out a great money-spinner for Smerdon’s long-time stable clients Tony and Joe Bongiorno and breeder Lisa Randle. She cost $75,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions and has now earned over $531,500.
Randle sold her full sister for $230,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She is named Lucia Bella and is in training with Kris Lees
Their dam Pride of Pine a half sister to Procrastinate whose progeny include Laisserfaire, Foreplay, Time Thief and Personify.
Lone Rock is one of 19 stakes winners by Fastnet Rock. His service fee of $132,000 (inc gst) is the most expensive of the 13 sires on the Coolmore roster this year.
