Lonhro sired his 16th stakes winner when Obsequious resumed from a spell to take the G3 San Domenico Stakes by a length from class filly Solar Charged on Saturday.
Obsequious (3f Lonhro – Sycophant by Commands) always had the Charge Forward filly in her sights at Randwick. She poured on the pressure turning for home and had the leader’s measure in a couple of strides. Golden Slipper placegetter Decision Time finished nearly three lengths away in third.
Lonhro looks a Champion Australian stallion of the future. The Darley resident was a clear winner of the third-season sires’ premiership in 2009-10 and can become Australia’s alpha male within five years.
Lonhro is expected to cover an exceptional line-up of mares this season including G1 Melbourne Cup legend Makybe Diva. He will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside property at $88,000 (inc gst) alongside his G1 winning son Denman ($38,500 inc gst).
Obsequious races in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed and joins a San Domenico honour-roll that includes Duporth, Gold Edition, Charge Forward, Regimental Gal, Testa Rosa and General Nediym. She will now head to the first leg of the Princess Series in the G3 Silver Shadow Stakes.
Her dam Sycophant was a three length Randwick winner at her only start in February 2006 and she is a half-sister to G2 Tea Rose stakes placegetter Sydney Owner (Octagonal). Sycophant has a yearling filly by Lonhro and was bred back to Strategic last year.
