Los Lobos launches Tapeta Park

Tasmanian based gelding Los Lobos wrote his name into the record books by winning the opening race on the new synthetic surface at Devonport on Sunday.  The track will now be known as Tapeta Park.

Los Lobos (4h Lion Heart – Settain by Century) had been at Darryl Horner’s Spreyton stables for less than a fortnight before breaking through in the New DRC Bar & Bistro Maiden Plate (1150m).

Horner believed the horse would need the run, hence the big pay-out of $55 on the TAB.

Los Lobos cost $70,000 out of the Flinders Park consignment at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  He was initially trained by Robbie Laing for his main client John Playfoot but was leased to Horner after failing in his first two starts at Cranbourne and Geelong.

Los Lobos led from a wide gate and, once in front, jockey Eddie Brennen ensured a quick tempo.  He kept up a solid gallop in the straight to score by more than three lengths.

Los Lobos is by former Coolmore shuttler Lion Heart (Tale of the Cat) who is now based in Turkey.  He is the fourth winner for Flemington stakes performer Settain.  The dam is a sister to G3 BTC Sprint winner Taos who is still in service with John Hickmott in South Australia.
