Perth mare Magnifisio capped a stakes-winning double for Magnus in the LR Northam Stakes (1100m) on Sunday.

The Jim Taylor trained sprinter tracked Travinator before letting down to score by over a length in 62.21s.  She would have clocked a time much closer to Vain Raider’s track record of 61.75s if Jason Brown had ridden her right out in the closing stages.

Magnifisio (4m Magnus – Ifestio by Key Business) was racing first-up since New Year’s Day and had to shoulder 57.5kg.  It was her fourth win on end after summer carnival highlights in the LR Summer Scorcher and LR Crawford Stakes.

Overall, she has built up a 17: 9-4-2 record and earned $488,500 for managing part-owner Alan MacAlister.  “She’s a great filly,” Taylor said.  “I’ve been very happy with her but giving Travinator 3kg was never going to be easy.”

The Rangeview Stud bred mare is from a sister to Taylor’s Group 1 winning sprinter Barakey who is scheduled to return from a hoof ailment in time for the LR Goodwood Sprint at Belmont in August.

Magnus started the weekend with Alpha Beat’s Listed breakthrough in the Adelaide Guineas (1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday.  The Anthony Cummings trained galloper flew home to catch Lady Lakshmi right on the line.

Alpha Beat (3g Magnus – Silverbeat by Distant Music) was bred by Dorrington Park owner Robert Crabtree who raced Magnus to a Group 1 victory in The Galaxy.  He kept a share in Alpha Beat after selling the Guineas winner as a yearling for $120,000 at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Cummings will send Alpha Beat to his Randwick stables to be set for the LR Inglis 3YO Guineas at Scone on May 17.

Magnus will stand for a service fee of $16,500 (inc gst) at Eliza Park International this year.
