Magnus colts make six figures at Magic Millions

Eliza Park sire Magnus has made a huge impact on the Gold Coast with two of his first crop of yearlings selling for six figures at the opening session of the Magic Millions.

Champion trainer Peter Moody topped Day 1 with an $850,000 Redoute’s Choice colt and dipped into the war chest to pay another $120,000 for the flashy Magnus – Coniston Gem colt (Lot 78).  “He’s a striking type and is very much like his sire,” Moody said.  “Having looked at the Magnus yearlings, it appears the acorn hasn’t fallen far from the tree.”

Moody trained Magnus throughout his illustrious career and his unbeaten mare Black Caviar, who is by Eliza Park sire Bel Esprit, is out of a half sister to Magnus!

The Magnus colt from Discretionary (Lot 124) was a $100,000 buy for Lee Freedman.  He is from a half sister to Group winners Doubting and Special Edition.

Both Magnus yearlings were sold by Eliza Park and the Victorian stud’s draft also includes a Magnus colt from Redoute’s Choice mare Obbligato (Lot 385) that will parade as the final lot of Thursday’s session.
