Malibu Moon filly tops Maryland Sale

A Malibu Moon filly made  top price of $300,000 at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic’s Eastern Fall yearlings sale in Maryland on Monday.

The Virginia-bred youngster was consigned by an agent for Audley Farm Equine.  The grey filly is out of stakes-placed Holy Bull mare Never Fail who is a half-sister to G2 winner How About Now (Pentelicus).  The latter produced 2011 G2 Go for Wand Handicap winner Lovely Lil (Tiznow) as well as multiple stakes winner Sweet Sweet (Honour and Glory).

A Street Sense half-brother to G3 winner Richwoman (Successful Appeal) was next best when selling to Irish Acres for $210,000.  He is also a brother to Street Thug, a maiden winner who was an early nominee to the 2012 Triple Crown.

The Kentucky-bred colt was initially sold as a foal at the 2011 Keeneland November Sale for $250,000.  Richwoman had scored at G3 level in the 2006 Debutante Stakes and Cinderella Stakes in.

Monday’s Sale was compressed from two days into a single session this year.  Fasig-Tipton reported that 276 yearlings grossed $6.16 million at an average of $22,341 which represents a 21% increase.  The median jumped 30% to $12,000.
