Mandurah created a new world-record when he sizzled over a mile in 1.31.23s at Monmouth Park in New Jersey on Sunday. He eclipsed the former record of 1:31.41s which was clocked by Mr. Light at Gulfstream Park in January 2005.
Mandurah (6g A.P. Indy – Morning Pride by Machiavellian) crossed the line over 8 lengths in front after leading all the way under Alex Solis. The new world-record holder was bred by Gainsborough Farm in Kentucky and originally raced under the Darley banner. He is by champion sire A.P. Indy from Morning Pride who was a G3 winner of the Prix du Bois at Deauville.
“We purchased him privately as a four-year-old and gelded him,” trainer Grant Forster said. “He always trained well in the morning, but didn’t show up in the afternoon.”
Mandurah is a brother to Flashing who was a G1 winner of the Test Stakes at Saratoga and Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct last year. His extended family includes Darley’s Group 1 winners Swain and Fantastic Light plus Stradbroke Handicap favourite Whobegotyou.
