Hold That Tiger mare Tigress Joy completed a winning weekend for Swettenham Stud stallions at Warrnambool on Sunday.
Tigress Joy (4m Hold That Tiger – Agalia by Made Of Gold) was always travelling like a winner in the Midfield Group Hcp (1300m) and put her rivals to the sword in the straight to scored by five lengths.
The Darren Weir trained mare started a $2.50 favourite despite a last start loss at Sandown Hillside on Christmas Eve. She had won in record time at Warrnambool before going to town.
Tigress Joy is raced by Adelaide based owners Jack, Mark and John Rogers. The trio are brothers-in-law of Swettenham owner Adam Sangster.
Hillside Parade Racing owners Peter and Areti Arvanitis are also members of the syndicate. They’re a mad keen St Kilda supporters so it’s no surprise the winner races in the team’s black, white and red colours. And it was a timely victory for the couple coming just a day before Areti’s birthday.
“It was a terrific win,” Weir said shortly after the mare returned to scale. “I told everyone to forget the run at Sandown last month. She paraded terribly that day and then copped a check in running.
“She looked ready to run a big race in the yard at Warrnambool and raced accordingly. We will focus on a race in town with her now.”
Hold That Tiger shuttled to Swettenham until Sangster sold a controlling interest in the Group 1 winning son of Storm Cat last year.
Hold That Tiger had reverse shuttled from Swettenham to France for three years. Haras de la Haie Neuve studmaster Alain Regnier instigated the sale on the promise shown by his initial crop of French bred two year-olds.
Tigress Joy is the second winner for smart Adelaide mare Agalia who won six sprints as well as being stakes placed in the G3 SAJC McKay Stakes. She is also the dam of Dash for Cash winner Stylish Spender.
Weir also trains talented filly Flying Hostess who became the first winner for Swettenham Stud freshman Host at Ballarat’s twilight meeting on Thursday.
Fellow Swettenham sire Bianconi chimed in a winning city treble on Saturday with Oui Si Attitude (Morphettville), Princess Katie (Woodville NZ) and Royal Mail (Caulfield).
