Exceed And Excel climaxed a week to remember when his diminutive filly Margot Did claimed the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York on Friday.

The Darley sire was represented by G2 Hungerford Stakes winner Excelebration last Saturday and G2 Lowther Stakes winner Best Terms on Thursday.

He completed a big race double at York’s Ebor meeting when Margot Did scored an on-pace victory in the prestigious Nunthorpe over Hamish McGonagall (Namid) and Prohibit (Oasis Dream).  The 2007 Nunthorpe winner Kingsgate Native (Mujadil) was fourth home

Margot Did (3f Exceed And Excel – Special Dancer by Shareef Dancer) was bred by Nicky Hartery and was a bargain 10,000gns buy at the 2010 Tattersalls Craven 2YO Sale.

“The Nunthorpe has always been the plan – she was unlucky in the Lowther last year,” trainer Michael Bell said.  “She is happy bowling along in front and was one of the few on the bridle.”

Bell suggested the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp in October is next on the agenda for Margot Did.

Exceed And Excel has now sired three Group 1 winners following MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort and ATC Sires’ Produce and Champagne Stakes winner Helmet.

Exceed And Excel has sired 402 individual winners world-wide and 40 of them have graduated to black-type victories.
