Market Change for Caulfield Guineas

Moment of Change firmed into a $7 second favourite for the G1 Caulfield Guineas after demoralising his rivals in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1300m) at Sandown on Wednesday.

The exciting young galloper had won by 10 lengths first-up at Murtoa on August 27.

Moment In Change (3g Barely A Moment – Europium by Metal Storm) scored by four lengths over Meethaq (Al Maher) and Vatican (God’s Own) at the Lakeside circuit.  He could have stretched the margin if Linda Meech had moved a muscle in the straight.

“He’s a good horse, but I don’t know how good,” trainer Peter Moody said.  “He hasn’t been tested at home or at the races but the sky’s the limit.

“He’s such a big, raw horse so we’re not busting a gut to have him in the Caulfield Guineas.  They run the Australian Guineas and the Randwick Guineas in the autumn.”

Moment In Change was purchased by Rob Slade from Sovereign Thoroughbreds for $50,000 at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions.

Slade has enjoyed a tremendous run with graduates of the Perth Magic Millions.  He bought Tamanu Park, Brockman’s Lass and Time Matters over there and he also a promising Bel Esprit filly in training with Moody.

Moment In Change is by Cornerstone Stud sire Barely A Moment who was bred and sold in Western Australia.  He was a G1 winner of the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington and the Dubai Racing Club Cup and Toorak Handicap at Caulfield.

Barely A Moment has sired recent Adelaide winners Quick Thoughts, Edge Of Time, Minute By Minute and Mimiele while his Geelong winner Khalifa looks another promising prospect for trainer Mark Kavanagh.

Barely a Moment is standing for a $6,050 (inc gst) service fee at Cornerstone Stud.
