Maschino Streets ahead at Pinjarra

Maschino (Encosta De Lago) has an amazing black-type strike-rate at Alwyn Park and it wouldn’t surprise to see his latest maiden winner Street Maschino make a Stakes horse next season.

Street Maschino stepped up to a mile for the first time in the TABtouch Scan My Bet Maiden (1600m) at Pinjarra on Thursday and he relished a quick clip to bolt in by five lengths from Yakyak (I’m All The Talk) and Wounded Trooper (All American).

The bold-striding grey galloper settled in the running line for Lucy Fiore before breezing up to tearaway leader Shiver Me Gingers (Gingerbread Man) and putting the race to bed at the top of the straight.

It was the first-leg of a treble for local trainer Brett Pope prior to stablemates The Lucky Chip (Bradbury’s Luck) and The Coolakin King (Demerit).  “Leo (aka Street Maschino) saluted in great style,” Pope said.  “And he got through the Heavy 9 track conditions with ease.”

His dam Strawberry Street (Vital Equine) is three-from-three at stud following the Trade Fair (GB) pair Strawberry Mist and Street Fair.  Her latest is a weanling colt who is one of four foals from the final crop of Oratorio (Aus).

Strawberry Street was unplaced at her only start to Bippo No Bungus (Dubawi) at Bunbury in March 2012, however, she was retained by Pope’s partner Tameeka Brown with a pedigree going back to G1 Caulfield Cup winner Cole Diesel (Brigand) and G2 Expressway Stakes winner Joanne (Marscay).
