Jockey Jye McNeil believes Bo Zephyr has a promising future as a miler next year after guiding the gelding to an easy victory at Echuca.
Still in his first full prep and still learning to be racehorse, Bo Zephyr won the De Bortoli Wines Plate (1400m) with a decisive move approaching the home-turn on Monday.
“He jumped with them and relaxed,” McNeil said. “He can go hard but they went quick up front and we sat back on the fence.
“I hooked out on the corner and he opened up and was strong through the line. He will stretch out to a mile on that win.”
Bo Zephyr (pictured) is by Greta West Stud resident Keep The Faith and is trained by Robbie Griffiths for Victorian owner-breeders John & Barb Smith. They banked $11,000 in prizemoney and a Super VOBIS Owners Bonus of $8,400.
His dam Acapulco Princess (Swamp King) won up to 1900m at Kyneton for the same connections and she has also thrown three winners by Greta West associate God’s Own.
