Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro is poised to sire a second G1 Kentucky Oaks winner in three years this Friday.
His Bob Baffert trained filly Plum Pretty is quoted at 5-1 for the $1 million Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs which is scheduled for 7.45 on Saturday morning (AEST).
Medaglia d’Oro filly Rachel Alexander won the 2009 Kentucky Oaks by 20 lengths on the way to Horse of the Year honours. Shortly after the classic, Sheikh Mohammed stepped in and purchased Medaglia d’Oro from Stonewall Farm.
Plum Pretty (3f Medaglia d’Oro – Liszy by A.P. Indy) is coming off a incredible 25 length victory in the Sunland Park Oaks in New Mexico. She is owned by John Fort’s Peachtree Stable and was a $130,000 buy at the Ocala Breeders 2YO Sale in March 2010.
Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) covered a book of 97 mares at Darley Kelvinside at an $88,000 fee last year.
Pre-post Kentucky Oaks favourite R Heat Lightning was withdrawn on Monday by trainer Todd Pletcher because of a knee injury. Runaway G2 Fantasy Stakes winner Joyful Victory was then installed top of the charts at 5-2.
