Dash For Cash has a name that lends itself to the Essendon Mazda 55 Second Challenge at Moonee Valley.
The Swettenham Stud stallion is the sire of Melbourne flyer Melba and she shattered the 955m track-record on Friday night clocking 55.24s.
That bettered the previous mark held by General Truce at 55.28s. Cranbourne trainer Ricky Maund won a BT-50 valued at $55,000 courtesy of Essendon Mazda after that win in March.
Adelaide trainer Stuart Gower is in pole position for this season’s car even though we’re only 5 heats into the 18 race series. He prepares Melba for Adelaide’s Evans family who also bred the mare.
Melba (4m Dash For Cash – Rubivale by Rubiton) has won three sprints for connections and she has a yearling half-sister by Hold That Tiger who was formerly based at Swettenham.
Hold That Tiger mare Tigress Joy completed a running double for Swettenham sires in the Caravan Industry Victoria Hcp (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Tigress Joy (5m Hold That Tiger – Agalia by Made Of Gold) also has an Adelaide connection through her part- owners Jack, Mark and John Rogers. The trio are brothers-in-law of Swettenham owner Adam Sangster and they race her with Hillside Parade Racing couple Peter and Areti Arvanitis. The mare was a $30,000 graduate of the 2009 Adelaide Magic Millions.
Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat) shuttled to Swettenham until Sangster sold a controlling interest in him to French based stud Haras de la Haie Neuve two years ago.
