Last Saturday’s Caulfield and Ascot meetings kicked off a week to remember for Belmont Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Damon Gabbedy.
At the Caulfield Cup meeting, Gabbedy’s clients cheered home the victories of Pinot (LR Ethereal Stakes) and Fuhryk (LR Alinghi Stakes). He bought their dams and there’s more black-type ahead at Flemington.
The wins kept coming later in the afternoon for leading owners Bob and Sandra Peters when racing resumed for the summer season at Ascot. They claimed a winning double with Belmont Bloodstock graduates Silverstream (G3 Northerly Stakes) and Stageman (Hosemasters Hcp).
Pinot (Pierro) firmed into a $5 second-favourite for the G1 Victorian Oaks following a comprehensive victory at Caulfield. Her dam Dizelle won a Group 1 with paralysing burst in the final furlong of the 2005 AJC Oaks at Randwick.
Gabbedy negotiated the private purchase of Dizelle earlier this year for Wilf & Rosemary Mula. She had already produced 2010 Ethereal Stakes winner Dizlago and is an even more valuable commodity with Pinot is contention for a Group 1.
Star Witness mare Fuhryk rounded out the Belmont Bloodstock double at Caulfield. Gabbedy had purchased her dam Fuhrnatic at the 2015 Magic Millions National Sale for a mere $40,000 on behalf of Robert Crabtree.
At that time, Fuhryk was a yearling and had been sold by breeder Michael Christian for $60,000 a few months earlier at the Inglis Melbourne Premier. Fortunately, he kept a share in a syndicate with Lindsay Park.
Fuhrnatic was in foal to All Too Hard at the National Sale and the resultant filly made $500,000 to Bahen Bloodstock at this year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier. The mare is due to foal any minute to Crabtree’s successful stallion Magnus.
The Peters Investments winners in Perth were both sourced at Inglis auctions in Sydney. Silverstream (Al Maher) cost $320,000 at the 2013 Easter Yearling Sale as the standout filly from Yarraman Park.
“Superb-mover, athletic with great length, hindquarter and girth,” Gabbedy recalled. “She had the pedigree to go along with it and will make a very valuable addition to the already strong Peters broodmare band.”
Stageman (Written Tycoon) topped the 2016 Ready To Race Sale at $310,000. “Of the four horses we purchased, Stageman is undefeated in two starts and American Joy (Americain) ran an eye catching third on debut and will embark on an WA Oaks campaign.”
On Sunday, All Too Hard filly Progression won her maiden at Wyong for a syndicate headed by Vinery Stud. The Kris Lees-trained 3yo is a daughter of Group 1 Makybe mare Headway (Charge Forward) and was a $280,000 buy for Belmont Bloodstock at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.
Gabbedy’s winning connection with the Peters family and Vinery continued with Sally’s Realm on Wednesday. She looks another early black-type winner after unleashing a tremendous turn of foot second-up at Belmont.
Sally’s Realm (More Than Ready) was bred and sold by Vinery for $320,000 at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions. “It’s an honour to play a part selecting those winners for the Peters family,” Gabbedy said. “As always, we are most grateful for their ongoing support of Belmont Bloodstock.”
