Trainer Dan O’Sullivan will make a quick return to the races with lightly-raced Mighty Nitrox in Race 4 at Ballarat this Tuesday.
The Globetrotter mare won the Buloke Shire Council Plate (1600m) at Donald last Sunday and will back-up over the same distance at her home track in a Benchmark 64.
Mighty Nitrox (4m Globetrotter – Nitrox by Lucky Owners) is a homebred for Greg Galt and kept lifting on the rails to defeat the favourite Laranta by a short-head . “She deserved that win and credit to Greg who has been very patient,” O’Sullivan said following the victory. “We went straight from 1200m to 1600m second-up. There’s plenty of upside and I think she will get out to 2000m.”
Galt has a 2yo full-sister to Mighty Nitrox and another filly by Globetrotter from Mighty Serene who is also by Danehill sire Lucky Owners.
“I think she can win a few more now that she’s got that maiden out of the way,” jockey Linda Meech predicted. “We were left in front a long way from home and she lost concentration at the 100m.
“She can be a tricky ride. Luckily I had enough time to get her going again when Dean’s (Yendell) horse ranged up and we got the bob in right on the line.”
Mighty Nitrox is bred to get over ground. She descends from Trivia Lass (Western Symphony) who won a G3 Sires’ Produce Stakes in Adelaide and was runner-up in a G1 South Australian Oaks.
Globetrotter (Street Cry) is covering his first Sunspeed book at Forrest Beach Estate for a $2,500 (inc gst) service fee. South-west breeders Robbie and Colin Smith, who stand him in association with trainer Brendon Fitzgerald, can be contacted on 0428 521 166 or rgnsmith1960@gmail.com
