Shadai homebred Clianthus became the first Japanese based stakes winner for Redoute’s Choice when she claimed the Listed Marguerite Stakes (1400m) at Hanshin on Sunday.
She is the 72nd individual stakes winner for Arrowfield’s champion sire and is a likely starter in the G1 NHK Mile on May 8.
Clianthus (3f Redoute’s Choice – Flower Park by Nihon Pillow Winner) was conceived in Australia and foaled in Japan. It was her third win in 7 starts for earnings in excess of AUD 400,000.
Botanical Art made it a Japanese double for Australia’s reigning champion in the Kurume Tokubetsu (1700m) at Kokura for Shadai owner Katsumi Yoshida.
Botanical Art (5h Redoute’s Choice – Cloudy Skies by Sadler’s Wells) was bred by the partnership of Arrowfield and Gainsborough Stud Australia and he was sold for $300,000 at the 2007 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
Redoute’s Choice currently leads the 2010-11 Australian sires’ premiership by stakes winners with 11. His first Japanese stakes winner and New Zealand G1 winning filly King’s Rose takes his worldwide seasonal tally to 13.
Sunday’s breakthrough came a week after Arrowfield bred sprinter Kinshasa No Kiseki became the first horse to win the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen in consecutive years. The son of Fuji Kiseki was raced by Kazumi Yoshida and has since been retired to Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.
Further Asian success for Redoute’s Choice arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday courtesy of short-priced Sha Tin winners California Choice and Grandfield.
Redoute’s Choice has a superb draft of 43 yearlings in the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale starting on Tuesday. They include half or full siblings to Makybe Diva, Private Steer, Samantha Miss, Polar Success, Savabeel, Rothesay, Beneteau, Amelia’s Dream and Sky Cuddle.
Arrowfield will present 14 lots by Redoute’s Choice and among them is a colt from the Aga Khan’s stakes-winning mare Vadsalina. The dam is a half-sister to G1 winner Vadawina.
