Danehill sire Legal Opinion is approaching the 100 winner milestone and he should break through that barrier in next to no time. Based at Goodwood Park in Queensland, Legal Opinion has sired 93 individual winners of 251 races for prizemoney nearing $3 million.
Legal Opinion (Danehill-Summoned by Crowned Prince) looks set for another busy season at the Allora nursery of Marshall and Joyce Boyd. There are over a dozen Danehill stallions based in the Sunshine State but Legal Opinion appears to offer the most value at a $2,750 (inc gst) fee.
The Coolmore champion got him from the very successful broodmare Summoned and that makes him a half brother to G1 racehorse and sire Zeditave (The Judge) who is still going strong at Newhaven Park. Another half-brother Alannon (Noalcoholic) is the sire of Glenlogan Park sire Falvelon.
He is also closely related to G2 winners Jet Spur (Flying Spur) and Melito (Redoute’s Choice) as well as South African G1 winner Greys Inn (Zabeel).
Legal Opinion was passed in for $280,000 at the 1999 Inglis Easter Sale and was retained to race with Gerald Ryan. In a brief four-start race career, he displayed blistering speed to smash a long-standing 2yo class record at the Gold Coast.
Despite inheriting a pedigree rich in speed and precocity, Legal Opinion has provided a vast array of winners ranging from 800m right up to 2200m.
His stock are bread-and-butter gallopers and they are the backbone of any stable. There’s black-type at the top end with the likes of Belles Opinion, who was runner up in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich.
Legal Opinion stands at Goodwood Park alongside St Averil (St Ballado), Duntroon Digger (Royal Academy) and Specialize (Bluebird)
