Brilliant Singapore sprinter Super Kenny continued his resurrection from a life-threatening injury to win again at Kranji on Friday night.

The son of Swettenham Stud sire Host (Chi) was on an upward spiral last year when he suffered a severe off-hind tendon injury in the G3 Singapore Sprint (1200m).  On-course vets recommended the gelding be put down but trainer Pat Shaw had a hunch he could be saved and, ultimately, the South African-born conditioner was right.

Super Kenny (5g Host – Mysterious Ransom by Red Ransom) made it 6 wins from 20 starts for owners Mark and Emily Yong when he ran down G2 Golden Horseshoe winner Kiwi Karma to score by two lengths on Friday.

“He could have been anything had it not been for that injury,” assistant-trainer Ricardo Le Grange said.  “Patience and time have brought him back and it’s great for Mark as he puts a lot of money into racing.”

Super Kenny cost $30,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions and has now earned the equivalent of AUD 284,000.  He is from an unraced half-sister to More Than Ready stakes winner Deloraine.

“Considering he’s come back from the brink, it’s a miracle,” jockey Barend Vorster said.  “He’s been a special horse to me and has tonnes of ability.  He settled beautifully tonight and finished off very well.”

Swettenham Stud stands Host (Hussonet) for an $8,800 (inc gst) service fee.
