Mares in foal to Monashee Mountain will highlight the Racetree draft at the Magic Millions August Thoroughbred Sale at the Gold Coast.
Monashee Mountain, who is bred on the Danzig – Mr. Prospector cross, originally shuttled to Willowbend Stud. He returned to Queensland last year when Racetree’s Kevin Dixon secured the son of Danzig from his overseas owners and installed him as a resident sire of the Innisplain based nursery. He will stand for an $8,800 service fee this year.
Monashee Mountain is a half-brother to 2003 US Horse of the Year Mineshaft (A P Indy) and from his first five southern crops has sired 130 winners at a 62% winning strike-rate. His marquee runner in Australia has been Group 1 QTC Stradbroke Handicap winner La Montagna.
He has also broken through the 100 winners barrier in the northern hemisphere and his stock have been successful in Ireland, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, United States and Canada.
Monashee Mountain filly Dance For Us boosted his stakes winning tally overseas when she won the Listed Bison City Stakes (1700m) at Woodbine on June 28. It was the second leg of Canada’s Triple Tiara and she will be set for the series finale in the Wonder Where Stakes (LR) at Woodbine on July 25.
Dance For Us (3f Monashee Mountain–Heart Beat by Apalachee) swept to the lead under jockey Chantal Sutherland in the straight and held off Flashy Got Even (Steven Got Even) to win by a nose.
The winner is a Minshall Farms homebred and is the second winner out of Heart Beat who is a sister to Canadian champion older female Dance for Donna.
“She’s done everything right, right from the beginning,” trainer Barbara Minshall said. “She’s been a pretty good horse to train. She didn’t spend the winter in Florida, so she had some time off. She came in here a little behind, but I think she’s a true stayer.”
Dance For Us will have her work cut out winning the final leg of the Triple Tiara against class filly Milwaukee Appeal who will strip a firm favourite for the Wonder Where Stakes.
Milwaukee Appeal captured the first leg of the Triple Tiara with a dominant three length victory in the Woodbine Oaks on June 7. She skipped the Bison City to take on the colts in the G1 Queen’s Plate and was very impressive when a fast-finishing third to Eye of the Leopard.
ANOTHER standout among the 52 strong draft from Racetree set to go under the hammer at the Gold Coast on August 16 is black-type filly Impulsive Dream.
A well-bred two-year-old filly by Encosta de Lago, Impulsive Dream is a Brisbane winner and was G2 placed in the QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Classic. She is a half sister to Flemington stakes winner Hillfa and Maribyrnong Plate runner-up Love Jeddah.
Also in the Racetree draft are broodmares in foal to the likes of Greenwood Lake, Ferocity, Hotel Grand, Danewin, Stromberg Carlson and Enemy of Average plus yearlings by Greenwood Lake, Hotel Grand, Red Dazzler and Sequalo.
