War Chant’s Hong Kong based galloper Surrounded has found winning form since moving stables from John Moore to David Hall.
Surrounded (6g War Chant – Andalucian by Zafonic) powered home from the back of a 14 horse field in the Elizabeth Arden Hcp (1600m) on Sunday. Hall won the Co-Tack Hcp (2000m) with him in May and the gelding resumed with another impressive victory first-up at Sha Tin.
“He’s got an engine although his temperament isn’t ideal for Hong Kong,” jockey Brett Prebble said. “It took a few runs, but his form has been good since David worked him out.”
War Chant’s most successful galloper in Hong Kong has been Norman Invader. He annexed the G3 Tower Stakes at the Curragh before transferring to Tony Cruz where he earned over $HK3.42 million.
War Chant (USA) shuttles from Three Chimneys Farm to Yarradale Stud in Western Australia. His latest Hong Kong winner is from an unraced half-sister to G1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Prophecy (Warning) whose foals include Foreteller (Dansili) and the dam of Showcasing (Oasis Dream).
Foreteller was a stakes winner at Maisons-Laffitte before Chris Waller exported him to win the G3 Coongy Hcp at Caulfield this time last year. Showcasing was a G2 winner of the Gimcrack Stakes at York and is currently serving his second New Zealand book at Haunui Farm.
War Chant’s first Sunspeed foals are on the ground at Yarradale Stud. He is serving a second southern book at the Gidgegannup property for a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee.
