Moraitis Missile

Love Conquers All would have worried rival trainers leading into the spring carnival when he won the weight-for-age Missile Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.  He showed a brilliant turn of foot in the straight to score a convincing victory over proven Group 1 performers Danleigh and Sniper’s Bullet.

Love Conquers All (4h Mossman – She’s A Meanie by Prince Salieri) was sent out the $1.75 favourite and gave champion jockey Jimmy Cassidy an armchair ride at his first run back since defeating Hay List in the June Stakes.

The victory thrilled owner Nick Moraitis and Michael Hawkes who prepares the winner in partnership with his father John and brother Wayne.  “He looks like a very nice horse,” Moraitis said.  “John (Hawkes) is rapt in him and the George Main Stakes is our main spring goal.”

Moraitis is an old hand at winning Group 1 races and so is Team Hawkes.  Moraitis and his former trainer Jack Denham went on a once-in-a-lifetime ride with champion stayer Might And Power winning the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in 1997 and the Cox Plate in 1998.

Moraitis then hooked up with John Hawkes to win feature races with Binding and Malcolm before Fuimicino followed up with wet-track wins in the G1 2007 AJC Derby and G1 2009 BMW.

Love Conquers All won the Victory Vein Plate last September and then buttered up to claim the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick.  He returned empty-handed from Melbourne but reappeared in the New Year to finish third in the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy on the Gold Coast.

Love Conquers All returned after a 20 week break for a Randwick win in May and then overcame a check in running to win the June Stakes from Hay List.  The Perth flyer franked that form with a record breaking victory in the G3 Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Love Conquers All was Mossman’s highest-priced yearling when he sold for $400,000 out of the Glenlogan Park draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  Mossman (Success Express) enjoyed a career-high season in 2009-10 and his home base Vinery Stud posted a book full sign against his name in July.

Love Conquers All is one of three winners for G1 Avondale Cup winner She’s a Meanie (Prince Salieri).  His older half-sister She’s Meaner (Falvelon) won the BTC Tommy Smith Slipper and Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Slipper.
