More Joy in Mile

More Joyous has been weighted to win the G1 AJC Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 16.  The Gai Waterhouse trained mare was given 56.5kg when weights were released on Monday.  It’s the same allocation as Typhoon Tracy received last year.

More Joyous (4m More Than Ready – Sunday Joy by Sunday Silence) continued her winning run with a convincing victory over Whobegotyou in the G1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday.  Whobegotyou tops the Doncaster weights on 58kg.

“She’s magic and dictated the race,” jockey Nash Rawiller said.  “I was making them roll in front and, once balanced, found plenty.”

The Sydney mare has won 12 from 16 starts and the only defeat since her two year-old days was in last year’s Cox Plate.  She resumed with a dazzling victory in the G2 AJC Breeders’ Classic at Randwick on February 12 and was always travelling like a winner in the Futurity.

More Joyous is a homebred for Strawberry Hills Stud owner John Singleton.  “It should have been 11 straight wins in the Futurity,” Singleton said at Caulfield.  “But I wanted to run her in last year’s Cox Plate and I’ll probably do it again this year!”

More Joyous is by Vinery’s champion Southern Halo sire More Than Ready from G1 Australian Oaks winner Sunday Joy.  Her dam is a half-sister to G1 winner Tuesday Joy.  Second dam Joie Denise won the G1 Queensland Oaks.

Singleton has been a More Than Ready fan since he arrived in Australia.  “Life’s easy really,” Singo said in an oft-repeated quote recently.  “You buy a More Than Ready, give them to Gai, and they send you the cheques.”

Singo has banked $1.87 million since More Joyous scored a five length win on debut at Rosehill in January 2009.  The Doncaster is a $2 million event.
