More Than Love refused to give an inch in a thrilling finish to the G3 Miesque Stakes at Hollywood Park on Friday night.
The More Than Ready filly hooked up with long-shot Starship Flare and took the length of the straight to reel in the leader with a last desperate lunge.
More Than Love is the 92nd stakes winner by Vinery sire More Than Ready. All up, he has sired 853 winners at a sky-high 71% winners-to-runners strike rate.
More Than Love (2f More Than Ready – I’m in Love by Zafonic) was trapped three wide when finishing fourth on debut at Belmont in September. She promptly broke her maiden next time out over the same course on October 9.
“My filly broke forward and I just stalked the leader,” jockey Ramon Dominguez said. “She was going real easily out there. It was a step up from her last race in New York but she looked good.”
More Than Love brought $130,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. She descends from the family of influential broodmare Numbered Account.
In Australia, More Than Ready colt Faustus started his journey towards the 2012 Golden Slipper with a brilliant debut win at Rosehill last week.
The Vinery champion has already toasted Golden Slipper wins by Sebring (2008) and Phelan Ready (2009).
