More Than Ready Bubbling at Belmont

Bubble Rock became the third juvenile Stakes winner in less than a month for More Than Ready (USA) in New York on Saturday.

Trained by Brad Cox for owner-breeder John Ed Anthony (Shortleaf Stable), she scored a decisive victory in the Matron Stakes (Gr.3, 1200m) at Belmont following an easy three-length Saratoga maiden win last month.  Sent out a $2.50 favourite to handle the rise in class, she railed up to the leaders turning for home and then went clear under Irad Ortiz, Jr.

“Bubble Rock (pictured) has progressed a lot mentally,” assistant-trainer Dustin Dugas said.  “She’s been a very nervous filly to work with and she’s kind of taken some time.  She’s a very big, good-looking filly and moves great.”

Former Vinery shuttler More Than Ready has now sired 211 Stakes winners.  The Matron Stakes result follows Consumer Spending (210) at Laurel Park on October 2 and Koala Princess (209) at Kentucky Downs on September 12.  And in England, his 2yo colt Kaboo (USA) followed a Sandown Stakes placing in July with a four-length victory at Wolverhampton last month.

Bubble Rock (2f More Than Ready – Reef Point by Giant’s Causeway) has impressed Ortiz.  “She’s nice and finished well at Saratoga, too.  I just did the same thing here and when I asked her, she finished really strong again.  She’s good-sized and I think she will be alright.”

She is bred on the same More Than Ready – Giant’s Causeway cross as Verrazano and is closely related to Korean champion sprinter Blue Chipper (Tiznow) and young sire Unified (Candy Ride).
