More Than Ready colt set for Golden Rose

More Than Ready will relinquish the Australian 2YO sires’ crown this season but, by any standard, the Vinery champion still enjoyed a successful season in the juvenile division.

More Than Ready has been represented by 12 individual 2YO winners so far this season which is equal second best behind the 14 sired by Redoute’s Choice.

Brightexpectations was the star performer among his youngsters in 2009-10.  The Gai Waterhouse trained colt was a G2 winner of the Pago Pago Stakes at Rosehill and he will go up a level next month in the G1 Golden Rose at Rosehill.

Brightexpectations (2c More Than Ready – Miss Brightman by Unbridled’s Song) warmed up for the $1 million event with a brilliant trial win at Randwick on Friday.  “He’s so much more relaxed and so much stronger,” Waterhouse said after watching the colt breeze home by seven lengths.  “He’s just got to make that next step up and I think he can.”

Waterhouse played an integral part in More Than Ready’s first Australian 2YO title in 2007-08 preparing Sebring to lucrative victories in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic and Golden Slipper Stakes.

The Vinery sire was crowned Champion 2YO sire again in 2008-09 courtesy of Phelan Ready who also completed the Magic Millions – Golden Slipper double.

Brightexpectations began More Than Ready’s quest for a hat-trick of titles with a determined victory in the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Slipper in December.  He started one of the favourites for the Golden Slipper after winning the Pago Pago but finished among the tailenders.

Despite that disappointment, there was a windfall for More Than Ready when his filly More Strawberries finished third in the $3.5 million event.  She collected $310,000 for owner John Singleton.

Brightexpectations is from Hawkesbury juvenile winner Miss Brightman and his second dam Espina was a Sandown winner for Lloyd Williams and Kerry Packer.  He was a $150,000 buy out of the Torryburn Stud draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Waterhouse indicated Brightexpectations will run in the San Domenico Stakes or the Run To The Rose leading up to the Golden Rose on August 28.

More Than Ready sired his latest stakes winner when New Image landed the Listed Belmont Oaks in Perth on Saturday.  The filly is a homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters.  The Perth couple also raced her dam Reflected Image (Bluebird) to a G2 victory in the 2000 Western Australian Oaks.

More Than Ready has now sired 70 stakes winners world-wide and his individual winner tally has reached 658 at an astounding strike rate of 70.3%.  He will stand for a $121,000 (inc gst) fee at Vinery in 2010.
