Local trainer Phillip Stokes made his presence felt during Day 1 of the Magic Millions Adelaide yearling sale, snapping up five lots including the first session’s most expensive lot on Tuesday.
The More Than Ready – Sun Chariot colt from Baramul Stud topped the leader board at $210,000. “He was a real standout,” Stokes said. “He was the colt of the sale and I’m delighted to have been able to buy him.”
“He’s by one of the great stallions in the country and the dam is a half sister to Super Satin who I trained. He went to Hong Kong and won the Derby.”
Stokes said the colt was the highest priced lot he’d ever purchased from his home-town sale. “I have bought at virtually all of the sales around the country this year but it’s great to be able to support the local sale. I couldn’t be happier with my five purchases.”
Victorian trainer Mark Riley struck later in the day to secure a Stratum colt for $140,000. Offered by Rob and Maureen McBryde’s Summerset Park Stud, the colt is a half brother to talented WA galloper Mr President.
Another local vendor to feature on the top selling leader-board was Meadowbrook Park. Its Churchill Downs colt took the eye of David Hayes who swooped at $125,000.
