More Than Ready millionaire in Florida

A More Than Ready colt sold for $1.10 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida 2YO Sale on Wednesday.

He had breezed 200 metres in 10.20 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Monday and was purchased by industry newcomer Lawrence Best.  It was a profitable result for pin-hooker Cary Frommer who bought the colt for $235,000 at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Yearling Sale.

Best is founder and chairman of Boston-based Oxo Capital, an investment firm specializing in life sciences and medical device companies.

His seven-figure colt (pictured) is out of multiple stakes winner Tensas Punch (War Front) from the family of Group 1 winner Liaison.  He will be trained by Chad Brown who knows the breed having prepared numerous stakes winners by More Than Ready including Neck of the Moon, Zindaya, Tammy the Torpedo, Life Imitates Art, Partisan Politics, Consumer Credit, Ready to Act, Pianist, etc.

More Than Ready’s top-priced yearling at the Melbourne Premier this week was a $200,000 colt purchased by Darren Weir.  He’s the first foal of Whateverwhenever (Choisir) who won a Group 3 Moonga Stakes in Melbourne.

The Vinery champion is building up for another strong autumn carnival with his top colt Prized Icon leading the charge in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington this Saturday.  He won the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at The Championships in 2016 and crowned his spring campaign with another Group 1 victory in the Victorian Derby.

Trainer James Cummings made an early decision to return south with the Randwick Guineas meeting under a cloud due to Sydney’s inclement weather this week.

“He travelled down well and I expect a strong showing,” Cummings said.  “He had a tough run first-up which wasn’t ideal.  He was caught wide and worked all the way before knocking up over the concluding stages.

“I have well and truly forgiven the horse and he’s going to keep building towards his grand final in the Australian Derby.”
