More Than Real in Overdrive at Saratoga

More Than Real can bounce back to winning form in the G2 Lake George Stakes (1700m) at Saratoga on Wednesday.

The More Than Ready filly is a stablemate of Overdriven (Tale Of The Cat) who was a very impressive winner of the G2 Sandford Stakes at Saratoga on Sunday.

More Than Real (3f More Than Ready – Miss Seffens by Dehere) won on debut at Saratoga last August and then added the G2 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf (1600m) at Churchill Downs in November.  Connections set her for an ambitious first-up assignment at Royal Ascot in June but she failed in the G1 Coronation Stakes.

“She is training very well and is in good shape,” trainer Todd Pletcher said.  “We’re trying to get back on course after the trip to England, so we hope that she’s back to her Breeders’ Cup form.”

Vinery champion More Than Ready sired her from multiple stakes winner Miss Seffens.  She won 11 races up to a mile and was fourth home in the 2000 Kentucky Oaks.

More Than Real was bred by Santucket Stables in Kentucky and was passed-in for $140,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Florida 2YO Sale as part of the Vinery consignment.  After winning her maiden at the Spa last year, she was purchased by celebrity chef Bobby Flay and his actress-wife Stephanie March.

The Lake George is shaping up as a rematch of the Breeders’ Cup finish.  More Than Real defeated Winter Memories by two lengths at Churchill Downs and the runner-up is coming off back-to-back stakes wins.
