Mornington galloper Masters Wodonga Cup

Mornington galloper Master Reset set a new track record in front of a bumper crowd for the Wodonga Gold Cup (1590m) on Friday.

The Matt Laurie trained son of Darley Victoria stallion Reset clocked 1.33.91s while improving his strike-rate to 6 wins in 11 starts.  He has earned over $160,000 for a syndicate that includes locally-based part-owner and breeder Wayne Matsinos.

“He was injured in the Bairnsdale Cup last month but worked his way back and it was a choice between today or Moonee Valley tomorrow,” Matsinos revealed.  “He’s a good horse but can be a bit fickle.  Matt trains him out of the paddock – he doesn’t like being boxed.”

Matsinos bred Master Reset from Glowing Tribute (Zeditave) whose only win was a maiden at Tumbarumba.  It’s the family of Aerosmith, a Group 1 winner in NZ (Wellington Cup) and Australia (Turnbull Stakes).

Glowing Tribute’s 3yo Electric Tribute (Krupt) won a Kembla maiden in June for Matsinos and she foaled a Von Costa De Hero filly in September.

“Master Reset isn’t the best mannered horse but sprinted really well in the straight,” jockey Jason Benbow said.  “Breaking the track record isn’t an easy feat especially in a race with that much depth and that much pressure.  Hopefully, I can stick with him and get a few more wins along the way.”

Reset (Zabeel) holds a slender lead in the Victorian sires’ premiership ($1.96 million) this season from Written Tycoon ($1.90 million).  He stands at Darley Victoria for a $16,500 (inc gst) service fee.
