VRC Oaks winner Mosheen returned to racing with a dominant victory in the Listed MRC Australasia Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
The win came a week after syndicate manager Phil Sly signed over a half-share in the filly to leading Japanese breeder Katsumi Yoshida.
Mosheen (3f Fastnet Rock – Sumehra by Stravinsky) was always travelling like a winner first-up. She tracked into the race and then coasted home to score with ears pricked. “I had the race won a long way out,” jockey Dan Nikolic said. “There is so much scope to this filly and she’s only 80% fit.”
Mosheen was initially purchased for $250,000 from Bylong Park at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale. She started her career under the care of Leon Corstens and was runner-up to Sepoy in last year’s G1 Golden Slipper.
Subsequently moved to Robert Smerdon’s Caulfield stable, Mosheen won the G2 Edward Manifold Stakes prior to a nine length victory in the G1 VRC Oaks in November.
Smerdon has plenty of options with Mosheen starting with the G3 Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on February 18. She will then head to the G1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 3 and G1 Coolmore Classic (1600m) at Rosehill on March 24.
Bylong Park will offer a Zabeel half-brother to Mosheen (Lot 413) at the 2012 Inglis Easter Sale. Their dam Sumehra foaled a Flying Spur colt in October. Second dam Miss Priority (Kaapstad) is a half-sister to Might And Power.
