Mungrup Stud celebrates with Sireeze

Mungrup Stud played another winning hand in the Goldfields on Wednesday when Sireeze powered home in the LR Hannans Hcp (1400m).

Mungrup claimed Kalgoorlie’s feature sprint for a third time – Tool Time (Steel Glow) in 1999 and McLurch (McFlirt) in 2009 were both by sires based at the leading Great Southern nursery.

Sireeze (5g Choisir – Westerly Breeze by Dr Johnson) responded to a perfectly-timed ride by Ben Paterson to defeat the favourite Express Service by a long-head.  The runner-up is by Mungrup champion Danehill Express.

Sireeze also gave trainer Sharon Miller her third win in Hannans following Ellicorsam (2004) and Wire Detonator (2005).  “He will now be set for the Ascot summer carnival,” Miller said.  “He can be a little bit cheeky at home but is an easy horse to train.”

Sireeze was bred by Lex Piper and Ritchie Green and raised at Mungrup Stud before graduating from the 2011 Perth Magic Millions for $50,000.  He had won last year’s Listed T J Smith Trophy (1600m) at Ascot and has now banked over $334,000.

Piper and Green raced his dam Westerly Breeze to win the 2007 WA Oaks and they were also partners in 2011 Perth Cup winner Guest Wing.

Westerly Breeze has a 2yo filly by Danehill Express and a yearling filly by Hala Bek.
