South African trainer Mike de Kock won the G3 UAE 2000 Guineas for the fourth time when Australian bred colt Musir ran out a convincing winner of the classic at Meydan on Thursday night.

Jockey Christophe Soumillon produced the Redoute’s Choice colt down the centre of the track and he looked the winner a long way from home.  “I was worried about the draw beforehand but during the race I was always happy,” Soumillon said.  “He has a real touch of class and is a pleasure to ride.”

Musir (3c Redoute’s Choice – Dizzy De Lago by Encosta de Lago) started an even-money favourite to land his second victory at the Dubai Carnival and de Kock declared he will now go for a hat-trick in the UAE Derby.

“He is a bit special and on that performance the longer trip of the Derby will not be a problem,” de Kock predicted.  “I told Christophe to see what we had tonight and it was good performance.”

Musir, a colt bred on the cross of Australia’s two leading stallions, was named South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt in 2008-09.  He was bred by Sheikh bin Khalifa and was offered for sale by Coolmore Stud at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where he was passed in at $900,000.

The decision was taken to send the colt to South Africa where he posted a Group 1 victory in the 2009 Golden Horseshoe (1400m).

Musir is by Arrowfield Stud’s schampion sire Redoute’s Choice who will be represented by a handful of northern hemisphere-bred two-year-olds in Europe this year.
